Accessibility Statement

HOPE Clinic is dedicated to ensuring digital accessibility and healthcare resource access for all patients and community members.

Our Commitment

HOPE Clinic is dedicated to ensuring digital accessibility for all patients and visitors. We believe that access to healthcare includes equal access to our digital services, information, and tools. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure our website is inclusive and barrier-free.

Conformance Standard

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines outline best practices to ensure web content is accessible to individuals with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities.

Technical Specifications

Accessibility of HOPE Clinic relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • Wix Studio: The website platform and content management system used to build and host the site.

  • HTML & WAI-ARIA: Used for semantic structure, ordered heading tags, and descriptive labels on popups and menus.

  • CSS & JavaScript: Used for responsive design, layout, color contrast, and interactive components.

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Third-Party Tools and Limitations

While we strive to ensure the HOPE Clinic website is fully accessible, some elements of our website rely on third-party services, tools, and Wix Studio applications. These may include:

  • Embedded Content (iFrames): External forms, maps, or videos hosted by third parties.

  • Wix Apps & Widgets: Certain dynamic elements provided by the Wix App Market.

Because these third-party tools are controlled by external providers, they may not always fully conform to our accessibility standards. We are continuously monitoring these features and working to provide accessible alternatives where possible.

Measures Taken to Support Accessibility

To support accessibility across our website, we have implemented the following enhancements:

1. Structure & Screen Reader Optimization

  • Logical Heading Hierarchy: Pages are structured with clear, sequential heading tags ($H1$, $H2$, $H3$) to enable screen reader users to navigate content efficiently and in the intended reading order.

  • Descriptive Page Titles: Every page features a unique, descriptive <title> tag to orient visitors immediately.

  • Alternative Text: Informative images, clinic awards, accreditations, event banners, and board member headshots include descriptive alt text.

  • Decorative Elements: Purely visual backgrounds, decorative media headers, and aesthetic service icons are explicitly marked as decorative to avoid cluttering screen reader announcements.

  • Clear Link & Button Labels: Interactive elements—including header/footer navigation, social media icons, and action buttons—feature clear, descriptive labels (removing repetitive announcements and unlabeled icons).

2. Visual & Contrast Design

  • Color Contrast: Text and key user interface elements (such as opening hours and primary alerts) meet or exceed WCAG Level AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds.

  • Monochrome Testing: Content and essential UI elements do not rely solely on color to convey meaning or instructions.

  • Zoom & Reflow: The layout supports browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content, clipped menus, or broken interactive dialogs.

3. Keyboard Navigation & Focus Management

  • Full Keyboard Operability: Main navigation menus, popups, interactive dialogs, and key action buttons (such as the "Donate" and "Book Appointment" pathways) are fully accessible via keyboard (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, Esc).

  • Visible Focus Indicators: Interactive components display clear visual outlines when focused via keyboard.

4. Forms & Interactive Elements

  • Form Field Labels: Patient forms and "Contact Us" inputs have explicit, readable labels associated with each field.

  • Error Handling & Validation: Form errors are clearly announced and identified with instructions to help users correct missing or invalid entries.

5. Media & Motion

  • Motion & Autoplay Controls: Any visual animation, dynamic marquee, or automatic media element provides users with the ability to pause, stop, or manage movement to minimize distractions and prevent cognitive fatigue.

Additional Accessibility Features

In line with our mission to provide culturally competent care:

  • Language Access: Our website features language support options to assist diverse communities in navigating patient forms and services.

  • Patient Portal Assistance: If you experience difficulty accessing the third-party Patient Portal or digital billing system, please contact our staff directly for manual assistance.

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts to ensure the accessibility of the HOPE Clinic website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below:

  • News and Events Page: Some older content may be missing alternative text for images, and there may be minor color contrast or heading structure issues.

  • Luncheon Program: The page is currently missing a primary header.

  • PCMH Section: Some images may be missing alternative text.

Assessment Approach

HOPE Clinic assessed the accessibility of HOPE Clinic by the following approaches:

  • Self-evaluation: Comprehensive audits including screen reader testing, keyboard navigation verification, DOM hierarchy structuring, and color contrast evaluation.
