Houston’s Hepatitis B-Free Project

This program’s main goal is to reduce the burden of HBV in the Houston Asian American community by developing a comprehensive program that increases patient awareness about HBV through outreach and education, provides free or low cost screening and vaccination, follow-up care and treatment services if necessary.

    Aims:
  • To establish a HBV advisory council composed of all key stakeholders in the Houston area, including community leaders, researchers and health care providers
  • Develop a strategic plan on how to jointly address the HBV epidemic in the Asian community in Houston
  • Secure sustainability through additional funding for the HBV project from local and national foundations
  • Secure support for the HBV project from local and state government
  • Create and support programs that provide awareness of the HBV in the Asian community
  • Reduce barriers to health care access for HBV patients and families
  • To increase HBV awareness through outreach, education and collaboration.

Phoenix Breast Cancer Project

The Asian Breast Cancer Outreach and Education Program, also known as the Phoenix Project, was initiated to increase awareness of breast cancer and mammography screening among low income, limited English proficient Asian women in the Greater Houston area. Over the last 5 years, AAHC- HOPE Clinic has provided free breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment to over 2000 women through this award winning project. The project continues to receive funding from Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Houston Affiliate and The Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund.

    To qualify:
  • Women must be at least 40 years old
  • Low-income (need proof of income)
  • Under or uninsured
  • Have a doctor’s referral
  • Submit completed application to Phoenix Project.

Phoenix project is located at HOPE Clinic.  Applications can be filled out at HOPE Clinic or VN Teamwork (located at 11210 Bellaire, Suite 118, Houston, TX 77072).  For those who do not qualify for the Phoenix project, other avenues may be identified to help with mammogram screening.
