Health Education

In 2006 the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (formerly Texas Cancer Council) awarded the Asian American Health Coalition-HOPE Clinic a grant to bring culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate cancer education and access to services to the Asian population residing in the Houston Metropolitan area. To help the community access cancer educational materials in different languages, the following websites have been identified. Please follow the link and click on a language to look up available information. In addition, local cancer screening, prevention, and support resources are available under Cancer Services.

Immunization Action Coalition

IAC offers childhood, adolescent, and adult immunization information for Healthcare professionals. IAC's educational print materials are reviewed for technical accuracy by experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At this time, most of the translations on the website are donated.

Tufts University Hirsh Health Sciences Library continues to maintain the website. Selection criteria: English-language versions are available for comparison; Information is developed and maintained by authoritative sources; Information is recommended for inclusion by multilingual subject specialist.

Materials are doubled-checked for readability, reviewed by clinical experts, professionally translated, retranslated, edited and proofread by different individuals as a quality control standard, and reviewed and updated at least every 3 years.

IHEA-International Health Education Alliance

IHEA has over 160 brochures in 45 languages about prevention and early detection of cancer and other chronic diseases. Publication involves research, adult education specialist to produce simplified English originals; approval of text from scientists, health educators and focus groups; translation and modification with volunteers from within the community, evaluation by focus groups and professionals, and a post publication survey.

The website contains medical and cultural information on immigrant and refugee groups and designed to be available in neighbor hood or school clinics, hospitals, and libraries.
